NaPoWriMo- List and Reflections

Wed Apr 30, 2008, 5:19 PM
  • Mood: Triumph
  • Listening to: MCR- Black Parade (and I can't seem to STOP!)
  • Reading: Almost done with Hannibal
  • Eating: Loooootttss of sugar and peanut butter
I have completed PoWriMo!!!

For some reason, they show up in a bizarre and non-sequential order in that gallery, so here's a full listing:

1. that girl I
2. makelove
3. my love and lack of promise
4. of hedonism in breathing
5. Crank up the music
6. that's why I thank you
7. Grad Classes in Limerick Form
8. NaPoWriMo Desperation
9. sense of power
10. Why I Love Adam Gontier
11. not a statistic but a lyric
12. Pride
13. fourth time ain't the charm
14. here is my anticlimax
15. not a student
16. how it should be
17. :D
18. that extra little breath
19. dog-eared
20. survivor
21. I said
22. PoWriMo.22
23. sweet and wise Delilahs
24. barrage of paradigm violation
25. Author's Comments
26. become the white noise
27. holy and a spiritual thing
28. only because you're paid
29. Found Poetry.Spam
30. that there is any moment

Shit man, the list in and of itself halfway reads like found poetry.

Comments:

I have discovered that I like to use:
-personal narrative about stuff that happened to me
-no overarching metaphors
-first, second, and third person, but mostly first
-the "&" sign
-open verse
-really long sentence-stanzas
-cool-sounding bits of the poem itself in the title of the poem

...and that for some reason, starting to write about how much and why I hate my ex-boyfriend basically guarantees a poem, and quite often a really, really long poem. Even if the poem ends up not having anything to do with him. Lol. Guess he was good for somethin', then.

I also did find that it could get really intense to dip into some of the things that I did. If I hadn't been on a deadline/time crunch, I would have been unwilling to post some of the poems that I ultimately did, not because of poor quality but because they were so personal. Actually (or maybe I should say "of course") some of the poems I would not have posted otherwise are actually some of my best.

I also got into the habit this last month of starting to take notice of what could go into poetry- stories, odd phrases, feelings, etc. I haven't done that in a long time, maybe even a year or more.

I also wish to god PoWriMo hadn't happened at the busiest time of the school year (lol) but it may have also come at a time when I really needed to write about some of the stuff that I did. Therapy a la Microsoft word. (Actually, I think that's taken almost verbatim from one of the poems I started and then rejected- and yes, I did do a LITTLE filtering if I knew what I was writing just didn't work).

I also realized I'd kind of missed DevArt and I should browse and post on here more often. AWWWWWSSSS warmfuzzyhuggles. (I make no promises, though. Like, seriously, I wrote at least two poems this month saying I don't make promises.)

&I think that's it for now. :)

aw, crap.

You should try some Chetes. It'll kill that urge to listen to My Chemical Romance real quicklike.

What exactly was PoWriMo ? You had to write a poem everyday ? how did it start ?
That's a pretty good exercise...

Lol- actually, the Black Parade got good reviews, and it's prolly actually a "good" album. It's just a good MCR album is all. I thiink it's extra addicting because it follows a storyline and I'm still not 100% sure I've figured it out but I think I'm getting closer with every listen. Plus every song is an earworm.

And, Chetes? Who/what is Chetes?

Yeah, a poem a day- lots of deviants are doing it and I guess it's done by lots of people all over the country to- it's like NoWriMo (novel writing month) only poetry. [link] has a list of deviants who participated this year.

Hehe- yeah, you don't really get the option of agonizing over perfection when you're scrambling to keep up with a deadline.

Of course, I SHOULD go back and edit... whether that will ever happen, heaven only knows. Lol.

hahaha well who cares about you editing it .. It's only deviantart after all... I guess you'll edit what really remains as something that mattered enough in the end, heh ! but indeed that's a good way to know yourself and your relationship to poetry then.
Too bad i don't have any break up to feed poetry with ..*irony implied*..
